Indica, Sativa or Hybrid? A Simple Guide to Our Flower Bar

Our flower bar is one of the most popular stops in the shop. Every strain sits in its own glass jar with a clear label, so you can see the buds, ask questions and choose with confidence. If you are new to flower, or just want to understand the labels, this guide is for you.

What do H, I and S mean?

Each jar at Way~Up has a sticker with the strain name and a letter:

• I — Indica. Indica strains are traditionally described as relaxing, and many people save them for the evening.
• S — Sativa. Sativa strains are traditionally described as uplifting and are often chosen for daytime and social plans.
• H — Hybrid. Hybrids are a cross of both, often offering a balance of the two.

These labels are a helpful starting point, but every strain is unique and everyone’s experience is different.

Aroma and terpenes

Much of what makes each strain special is its aroma. These scents come from natural compounds called terpenes, the same family of compounds that give citrus, pine and lavender their smell. That is why strains have such vivid names: Orange Bellini leans bright and fruity, Grape Gas pairs grape with a fuel-like note, and Bubblegum Runtz leans sweet.

How to pick a strain

1. Think about the time of day and what you have planned.
2. Follow your nose. Ask to smell a few jars. Aroma is a great guide.
3. Look at the buds. Dense, well-trimmed buds with visible crystals are a sign of care.
4. Start small. Try a small amount of something new before buying more.

What is THCA?

Many hemp flower products are labeled by their THCA content. THCA is a natural compound in the raw plant. Rules for hemp products in Texas have been changing, so we follow current state requirements. You can find official information from the Texas DSHS Consumable Hemp Program.
